About This Walk
I am an avid amateur photographer from nearby Bristol, Rhode Island. I am a member of The Film Shooters Collective and will be shooting film for the walk, but of course digital shooters are welcome and encouraged! My family has a long heritage from Newport, tracing to the late 1800’s. From Starbucks, there are many great shooting opportunities such as Trinity Church, the working waterfront, Touro Synagogue, the Newport Art Museum, the International School of Yacht Restoration, many interesting shop windows and interesting colonial era architecture on cobblestone streets. If one wishes to take a short drive there is the beauty of seascapes on Ocean Drive. Newport is a great mix of urbanity and rich colonial history. I don’t have a portrait saved, so I’ll be at the Starbucks bearing some form of quirky sign for you to identify me. I have posted a seascape shot near Newport last winter. It will be great fun. I will be glad to share thoughts on shooting spots based on photographer’s wishes. We’ll return to Starbucks at noon and perhaps have lunch someplace downtown.
Here are some shooting locations I will suggest:
Trinity Church, a short walk from Starbucks. A beautiful colonial era church.
The entire city waterfront. There are lots of alleys and docked boats of all kinds, new and old
International yacht restoration school. I hope to arrange access to the restoration of the Coronet. It is a fabulous project with a catwalk around the vessel
Lower Thames Street, lots of interesting shops and shop windows
The Newport mansions are about a half mile walk from our starting point for those interested
The Cliff Walk is a great locale for shooting, but will be a bit of a walk (about a mile) from our starting point
Depending on the number of participants, I’ll do my best to arrange a nice place for us to have lunch when the walk ends.
Any camera is perfect, including a smart phone. For those wanting some coaching, I’m glad to help. I have been shooting actively since 2009, and love to meet up with others having enthusiasm for photography.
